Le Lièvre, Mouchi et la Gattora is a fantasy that plunges visitors into the heart of the romantic and artistic relationships between three major Surrealist figures of the 20th century: Stanislao Lepri (Le Lièvre), André Pieyre de Mandiargues (Mouchi), and Leonor Fini (La Gattora).
During the Second World War, these three artists found themselves in Monaco, seeking refuge in an apartment. It was in this environment that their bond deepened, nurturing both their personal relationship and their artistic work.
The exhibition takes its title from the affectionate nicknames these artists gave each other and unfolds within an apartment, evoking the possible setting for their romance. The walls of this apartment are decorated with a series of drawings that explore themes dear to the artists, such as hybrid and fantastical beings, and are anchored in the intimacy of the apartment's rooms.
The exhibition's scenography creates an atmosphere where one can sense the recent and ghostly presence of the artists, as if they had just left the premises to make way for visitors.
Monaco, as a sanctuary of comfort and an insular site for artistic experimentation, serves as the backdrop for this exhibition. The apartment, with its interconnected rooms, becomes the ideal setting to narrate the story of these artists and their complex relationship.
